Alistair Overeem vs. Francis Ngannou heavyweight war headed to Detroit

Published

on

A battle between top ranked heavyweight Alistair Overeem (43-15) and #4 ranked Francis Ngannou (10-1) has been added to December 2nd’s UFC 218 card according to UFC officials.

Overeem comes into the contest winning 6 of his last 7, his only defeat coming by the hands of current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic last September in Cleveland. He’ll look to get another crack at the strap with a victory of Ngannou, a fighter who holds a 100% finish rate with 6 of his 10 victories coming by way of KO and 4 via submission. If Ngannou can place Overeem’s head on his mantle, a chance to place a world title right next to it would almost surely be next.

According to MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani, a featherweight title bout between current champ Max Holloway and former lightweight title holder and featherweight challenger Frankie Edgar is expected to headline this card. Expect that announcement to be made official soon.

UFC 218 is scheduled for December 2nd and will take place inside of Detroit’s brand new Little Caesars Arena. Tickets go on sale for this event on October 13th. Here’s what the fight card looks like as of this writing:

Alistair Overeem (43-15) vs. Francis Ngannou (10-1)
