How did you spend your 21st birthday? All Aaron Pico did was put a grown man to sleep with with his left hand on live television. And that was all before 7 p.m. local time inside of the Shark Tank.
The United States Olympic freestyle wrestler made his MMA debut at lightweight this summer inside of New York’s Madison Square Garden as one of the most hyped prospects in the history of the sport. 24 seconds later, Pico would before forced to make a decsion; tap to a tight guillotine choke from his opponent, Zach Freeman, or take a short nap. He chose the former.
Just under 3 months later, Pico got right back to work against Justin Linn tonight at featherweight in a quick and dirty war that ended with the AKA product delivering a KO that shook the very foundation of San Jose’s SAP Center. Bellator color commentator Jimmy Smith went on to describe the KO as “cutting the strings on a puppet.”
In his post fight interview with Smith, Pico came off as smart and humble. He “stayed in his lane” by not calling out any names on the roster while still assuring everyone in attendance and watching at home that his mission is to collect a Bellator world title.
