The first round match ups for Bellator’s Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament are set in stone.

The year long 8-man tournament will begin on January 20th in Los Angeles when Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson (37-12) meets Chael Sonnen (30-15-1) at Bellator 192 at The Forum.  This will mark the beginning of Bellator’s run on the soon to debut Paramount Network.

On the opposite side of the bracket, Roy Nelson (23-14) will meet Matt Mitrione (12-5); this battle of TUF 10 castmates will take place on February 16th at Bellator 194 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

Sometime in April in Chicago, Fedor Emelianenko (36-5) will meet Frank Mir (18-11). The winner of that fight will meet the winner of Rampage versus Sonnen while the winner of Ryan Bader (24-5) versus ‘King Mo’ Lawal (21-6) in May will meet the Nelson versus Mitrione victor.

The winner of this 8-man tournament will be crowned as the new Bellator Heavyweight Champion. Expect alternates for this tournament to be announced shortly. For more information visit Bellator.com
