Fight Capsule: Relive Shogun and Hendo’s 2011 Deathmatch

The rematch you’ve all been waiting for is official. Two of the most storied fighters in this still very young history of the sport will lock horns once again tomorrow night and you better believe neither man is looking to repeat what happened the first time around. Both men want the KO and they want it early. Still, you would’ve thought that the magic these two men created together back in 2011 would’ve taken years of their career. Yet with Shogun, at 32 with some knee surgeries under, and Hendo at 43 being forced to put the TRT aside (after this bout) – you’re still looking at a couple of top ten guys who remain a huge threat against anyone in their division.

Back on November 19th of 2011 we didn’t know what to expect when these two PRIDE legends would finally find themselves locked inside of a cage with one another. Would it be too little too late? A battle between two has-beens that may have been worthwhile had it happened a half decade earlier? Or would it be PPV main event worthy material; A fight that would solidify the winner as a top contender for the UFC light heavyweight championship? I’m guessing it far exceeded everyone’s expectations.

For 25 minutes these men gave everything they had in a fight that would help further define two careers that would’ve been Hall of Fame worthy by any stretch if they never even met. Tomorrow night in Natal, Brazil they do it again. Before that happens, relive one of the greatest fights in mixed martial arts history below.
