Puerto Rican boxing hero Miguel Cotto (40-4) returned to the ring last night after almost a year away looking fresh, rested and deadlier than ever. His opponent, heavy hitting Aussie Daniel Geale (31-4), who tipped the scale at 157 lbs. on Friday for the middleweight title bout, looked just as depleted then as he looked sluggish and harmless at 183 lbs. across from Cotto on the night of the fight. Or maybe Cotto is that good; maybe he made it look easy?
It’s true, Geale may have been the perfect slam dunk for his return, but what’s next for Cotto is inevitable. A big ticket fight against Canelo Alvarez (45-1-1) can no longer be avoided – expect the two KO kings to hook up and give boxing heads something to look forward to in the fall. For now, check out Cotto’s handiwork from last night inside of Barclays in Brooklyn.
