Here we are almost six months into the year and UFC Fight Pass just keeps getting better. The latest addition is a new deal with Invicta FC. It will bring their past events into the ever growing UFC Fight Pass library. This deal makes perfect sense for Invicta FC, the UFC, and fight fans.
The UFC.com press release started with, “This is a historic multi-year, multi-event deal. When we launched UFC FIGHT PASS last Christmas, we said that we would never rest in bringing the best value to our subscribers. The addition of live and archived Invicta programming is going to be of enormous interest to our existing subscribers and bring in new subscribers, too.” – UFC Fight Pass chief content officer Marshall Zelaznik
This sets them both up to grow into new markets. It will give Invicta FC more exposure and help them continue to grow. Much credit has to go to Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp who has always had the long-term health of WMMA in mind when making such deals. There have been many tough times along the way but her steady hand has guided Invicta FC to this point.
In the press release Knapp said: “This is a great day for my company. Since the start of Invicta, I’ve been committed to providing the biggest and best possible platform for women athletes and, with this distribution deal with UFC FIGHT PASS, Invicta will reach the most passionate MMA fans, wherever they are in the world.”
Zelaznik added, “UFC FIGHT PASS already has subscribers in over 155 countries, which is a huge platform [for] the Invicta athletes. Invicta fighters are now sharing the same stage as elite UFC fighters like Alexander Gustafsson, Conor McGregor, Cung Le and Michael Bisping. For any UFC fans that haven’t seen these women compete before – I guarantee they will be blown away when they see what Invicta is all about.”
There are stars just waiting for the exposure like current Invicta FC bantamweight champion Lauren Murphy, flyweight champ Barb Honchak and atomweight title holder Michelle Waterson. As well as established stars like Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and challengers like Miriam Nakamoto and Zoila Gurgel.
They will also need to crown a new strawweight champion. It will be interesting to see how they do that as the rest of year unfolds. They have hinted at doing a reality show in the past and this would be the perfect place to do such a show to crown their new champion.
The UFC Fight Pass library also just got a lot deeper with the addition of the past Invicta FC events. It is a chance for fans to see how current UFC fighters like Cat Zingano and Sarah Kaufman have evolved.
It has been a quiet year for the women so far in 2014 compared to the 2013. That is all about to change and this announcement is just the first step.
Knapp said: “We are targeting a late-summer event, headlined by a world title fight. This is a historic event for myself, the company and my athletes, and every one of them is going to want to be on this first card.”
This new deal combined with the soon to be epic season of TUF 20 with the strawweights will explode the women’s side of the sport in the last part of 2014.
