Former World Heavyweight and ECW Champion Jack Swagger has requested to be released from his WWE contract.
Swagger announced that he had requested to be removed from the roster earlier today on Chael Sonnen’s Beyond the Fight podcast. Swagger explained that he was frustrated with his lack of direction on WWE programming of late.
The University of Oklahoma product received a monster push in 2010, winning the Money in the Bank briefcase and subsequently cashing it in on Chris Jericho to begin his first and only World Title run with the promotion.
Swagger would get another push a few years later when he earned a title shot at WrestleMania 29 against then Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio after winning the 2013 Elimination Chamber. His most memorable work with WWE came during this period using the ‘Real American’ gimmick with Zeb Colter as his manager. It should be noted that Colter (Dutch Mantel) has recently signed on with TNA Impact Wrestling alongside Jeff Jarrett as a creative consultant.
Swagger had not been featured in ring on WWE programming since defeating Simon Gotch in a singles match on Main Event last November. WWE has yet to make an official announcement on this matter.
