After two consecutive losses to the now retired Andre Ward, Russian ‘Krusher’ Sergey Kovalev (31-2-1) would bounce back quite beautifully last night inside of The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Kovalev scored three knockdowns on his opponent, Ukrainian boxer Vyacheslav Shabranskky (19-2), en route to a statement making TKO victory. The fight would be stopped at the 2:36 marker of the 2nd round. Kovalev would be awarded the vacant WBO (vacated by Ward at retirement) and IBA light heavyweight titles.

Also on the card, Sullivan Barrera (21-1) would score a dominant unanimous decision victory (98-88, 97-90, 97-89) over showboater Felix Valera (15-2) earning himself a future title shot against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.
