Looking into the MMA crystal ball: UFC predictions for 2017 (PART 3)

After last night’s great nights of fights it looks as though my ‘Mystic Mac’ skills are off slightly, but bear with me, in the erratic world of MMA, sometimes things don’t always go exactly as they should, but you can take these final round of predictions to the bank! 😉

Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson breaks Anderson Silva’s all time title defence record

The consensus P4P King ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson is only 1 win away from tying Anderson Silva’s record and an additional win away from shattering the record itself – in 2017 he gets it done. Expect Johnson to shut out Joseph Benavidez in a unanimous decision victory and closing the door on their chapter with one another. Johnson will continue to be the ‘official’ P4P no.1 before years’ end and his coronation of record breaker will be realised as he submits Wilson Reiss.

Unfortunately for ‘Mighty Mouse’ the lack of mainstream attention will still become apparent and talk of superfights will be at the forefront of his mind in 2018…

Joanna Jędrzejczyk continues her dominant reign in 2017

Joanna Jedrzejczyk will close out the year having defending her title twice, including a homecoming rematch against fellow compatriot, Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Joanna ‘Champion’ is slowly growing a large following of fans and the UFC seem to be onboard with her personality and fan-friendly fighting style, this will only develop over the year, as she starts to garner the attention that sees her as one of the most popular female fighters in the company.

In May, she will face her toughest test to date in Jessica Andrade who will prove to be game and hungry, but will fade across the five rounds allowing Jedrejczyk to put on a striking clinic ‘Tekken’ style. Joanna will request for the opportunity to defend her title in her home country in Poland and a rematch to settle the scores following from the first fight at UFC 205 will see her close off the rivalry with Kowalkiewicz in thrilling fashion. Utilising her legendary Muay Thai game, she will hurt her opponent early and celebrate as the continued Queen of the Strawweight division…

Unfortunately for Joanna, commentators will continue to murder her surname.

Holly Holm will become the Inaugural Feathweight champion, but the shadow of Cyborg looms large

Holly Holm will handily dispatch Germaine de Randamie at UFC 208, but will likely sit out the rest of the year as she waits to face the winner of Nunes v Shevchenko in a proposed ‘superfight’. Unfortunately for Holm, the true no.1 of the woman’s MMA 145 lb division, Cristiano Cyborg will be on the shelf for 6 months, as her USADA violation sees her suspended. A lack of true opponents at the weight will see the ‘145lb experiment’ feel a little stagnated, as the world awaits the next moves of Rousey, Nunes and Cyborg.

And finally

CM Punk will fight Meryl Streep at UFC 212, narrowing losing a spilt decision…
