After only the 9th professional fight of her mixed martial arts career, ‘Thug’ Rose Namajunas has already set herself up for a second shot at UFC gold.
The UFC’s first visit to Kansas City featured a co-main event pitting Namajunas (6-3) against the toughest opponent of her career in the form of former Invicta FC atomweight champion Michelle Waterson (14-5). Namajunas was really able to pair an improved and more patient striking game with her already dangerous grappling game to earn herself the TKO victory at just over the midway point of the second stanza.

Namajunas pounced on a downed Waterson after landing a lethal head kick on her out of position opponent. The kick would send her flying across the cage, where ‘Thug’ Rose would pepper Waterson with punches and elbows in hopes of earning her first stoppage victory via KO/TKO. However, the ‘Karate Hottie’ was able to survive the barrage of strikes only to find herself with Namajunas on her back, sinking in the rear naked choke for the finish, the 5th via submission in her young career.
Following an emotional embrace with former UFC heavyweight and longtime fiancée Pat ‘HD’ Barry, Namajunas would call for a title shot against the winner of the upcoming bout between current 4x defending champion Joanna Jedrzejczk and Jessica Andrade. You better believe that Namajunas will be watching closely when that fight, the co-main event of UFC 211, goes down in Dallas next month.
