PBC gave us two big fights on NBC this past Saturday night live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The first one was supposed to be contested for “Irish” Andy Lee’s WBO middleweight title. His opponent, the undefeated Peter Quillin, would not make weight though so the title was not on the line. The fight would end in a split draw with Quillin scoring two knockdowns (one off of a controversial trip) and Lee putting on a great showing late which was highlighted by a right hook in the 7th round that put Quillin on the canvas of the squared circle for the first time in his career.
The other headliner of the evening was fought at a catchweight of 143 lbs between Lamont Peterson and Philly’s Danny Garcia. Peterson did a lot of trotting and showboating earlier but didn’t provide any offense. He’d come on in the later rounds but it was too little too late; Garcia would remain undefeated via a majority decision in a fight that would’ve gone Peterson’s way if he game planned just a little better and decided to start fighting a round or three earlier.
Also on the night, Errol Spence Jr. absolutely obliterated Samuel Vargas en route to the 13th KO/TKO victory of his career.
