PW News & Rumors (3.23.17): Michaels vs. Styles, ROH/WWE, Kyle O’Reilly & more

In the world of professional wrestling, it’s nearly impossible to keep a handle of all of the news and rumors in one place. With so much going on just 10 days out from WrestleMania 33, we’re going to give you what we have right here, all the way up until April 2nd.

Disclaimer: Some of these tidbits are rumors (stories of uncertain truth) and should be treated as such.

• As heard on Sam Roberts’ Wrestling Podcast, Shawn Michaels did in fact turn down a match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 33. This would’ve been Michaels first match since his ‘Streak vs Retirement’ match at WrestleMania 26 against The Undertaker.

• As reported by Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet, WWE has been in secret talks with Sinclair Broadcasting about purchasing Ring of Honor since January. WWE’s main focus is to get a hold of the ROH library for the amount of footage they have of current and former WWE stars (Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Austin Aries… the list goes on and on). It’s unclear whether or not WWE would eliminate Ring of Honor completely or continue to air their product on their Network moving forward.

• Mauro Ranallo missing Smackdown Live over the past two weeks has been due to his continuing fight with bi polar disorder according to Dave Meltzer.

• Kyle O’Reilly has signed with Evolve. The length of the contract is unknown but this shoots down the rumors of the former ROH champion heading to NXT anytime in the near future.

• Alberto Del Rio (El Patron) was forced to cancel upcoming public appearances so that he could spend time with his girlfriend, WWE superstar Paige. Paige is currently in rough shape according to her family following multiple leaks of XXX photos and videos.

• With current tag team champions The Usos not currently scheduled to defend their titles at WrestleMania, word is that The Hardyz could be scheduled to appear on the card to begin a feud with Jimmy and Jey. This could be why WWE took the titles off American Alpha this past Tuesday considering that Jeff and Matt would come in as babyfaces and would need a heel team for their first program.
