Rory MacDonald taps Paul Daley in Bellator debut

Former UFC title contender Rory MacDonald didn’t waste anytime asserting himself as a top contender for Bellator gold in his company debut.

The 27-year-old Canadian fought for the first time out of the UFC since 2009 tonight when he took on legitimate KO threat Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley in the main event of the evening. MacDonald was able to control Daley for the full duration of the opening round after securing a takedown just over 20 seconds in. ‘The Red King’ never threatened to finish the fight at any moment in the opening stanza, he was just softening up his opponent for the inevitable.

15 seconds into the 2nd, MacDonald took Daley down after a short striking exchange where he quickly gained side control. Rory would work to gain Daley’s back and lock in a rear naked choke that would force the tap within seconds, putting himself in a position to Douglas Lima’s welterweight title.
