A champion versus champion bout of the highest order has been booked for the UFC’s annual International Fight Week PPV in Las Vegas.
Record breaking heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (18-2) will make his next title defense against current light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (20-1) in the main event of UFC 226 on July 7th. Both men successfully defended their belts last weekend in Boston at UFC 220.
Before Cormier attempts to make history by becoming only the fifth two-division champion in UFC history and second to hold two belts simultaneously, he’ll coach opposite Miocic on season 27 of The Ultimate Fighter. The season begins filming this month and will feature undefeated prospects from the lightweight and featherweight divisions competing to earn a six figure contract.
MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani is reporting that UFC 226 could feature three champion versus champions fights in total on the card. The UFC is looking to book flyweight champion and P4P king Demetrious Johnson versus bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw as well as women’s featherweight champ Cris Cyborg versus women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes sometime in 2018.
