Top welterweight bout added to UFC 217 ‘Bisping vs. St. Pierre’

A pivotal welterweight contest between two of the most exciting fighters in the sport has been scheduled for UFC 217.

Former title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson (13-2-1) versus “Gamebred” Jorge Masvidal (32-12) has been added to the PPV portion of the November 4th PPV event in New York City.

We haven’t seen Thompson since he came up short in his second straight title shot against current 170 lbs. king Tyron Woodley earlier this year. With a win against Masvidal, Thompson gets right back into title contention inside of a very shallow UFC welterweight division.

Masvidal had a 3-fight win streak broken by Demian Maia at UFC 211 in a bout that would’ve earned him a title shot. With Maia coming up short in his quest for the title last month, a victory for Masivdal over Thompson could put him right at the front of the line.
