Two title fights booked for UFC 215 in Edmonton

Two titles fights have been booked for the UFC’s Edmonton debut on September 9th.

UFC 215 will feature a main event between 10-time defending flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (26-2-1) and Ray Borg (11-2). A rematch between women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (14-4) and Valentina Shevchenko (14-2) will serve as the co-feature of the evening.

Johnson tied Anderson Silva’s record of 10 successful title defenses back in April with a 3rd round submission victory over Wilson Reis at UFC on FOX 24. He’s been the only man to hold the flyweight title since defeating Joseph Benavidez in the finals of 4-man tournament to decide the inaugural champion. Since that day in Toronto, all the way back at UFC 152, Johnson has beaten all comers, catapulting himself to the top spot of the UFC’s P4P rankings. He’ll look to make history against a fighter in Borg who holds a 5-2 record since making his UFC debut in 2014.

After having their UFC 213 main event canceled due to the champion’s sinusitis issues, Nunes and Shevchenko will look to do it again on September 9th. Nunes has been a force to be reckoned with since her TKO loss to Cat Zingano at UFC 178. With finishes of Shayna Baszler, Sara McMann, Miesha Tate (to win the title) and Ronda Rousey (to retain), she’s become the girl to beat at 135 lbs. In between finishing the aforementioned 4 fighters, Nunes ran into some trouble against Valentina Shevchenko in their first fight. Although she was able to earn the victory on the judges scorecards, Shevchenko finished strong in the 3rd and final round leading many to believe that she would’ve finished Nunes had the fight been scheduled for five. She’ll finally get that opportunity on September 9th.
