UFC Fight Night 126 ‘Cowboy vs. Mederios’ slated for February 18th in Austin

Fresh off a fight of the year worthy performance last month in Detroit, Yancy Mederios will make the walk for the  first time as a UFC headliner in Austin, Texas next month against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

Mederios is currently riding high on a three fight streak after defeating Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira in a fight that, as stated above, topped a lot of fight of the year lists. He’ll look to slay another ‘Cowboy’ when Cerrone enters the UFC Octagon for the 27th time in his career and the 7th time as a welterweight.

After suffering a TKO loss to Darren Till in Poland last October, Cerrone finds himself on a three-fight skid for the first time in his 43-fight career. The #10 ranked former lightweight title challenger will look to get back on the right track in this five round main event against the #15 ranked Wai’anae native.

The co-main event will pit heavyweight finishers Marcin Tybura and everyone’s favorite ‘Black Beast’ Derrick Lewis against one another in a fight that likely won’t need any help from the judges on duty. This will mark the first time that Lewis will compete since announcing his retirement after a tough TKO loss to Mark Hunt last summer. Lewis was slated to take on Fabricio Werdum at UFC 216 last October put would be forced to pull out on fight day due to lingering back issues. Tybura’s previous fight ended in a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Werdum the following month in Sydney.

A lightweight tilt between ‘Super’ Sage Northcutt and Thibault Gouti, a flyweight clash between former title challenger Ray Borg and Brandon Moreno and a women’s bantamweight tussle between Tonya Evinger and Marion Reneau will also be featured on the main card of this FOX Sports 1 card.

Tickets for UFC Fight Night 126 ‘Cowboy vs. Mederios’ are already on sale for UFC Fight Club members as of yesterday, January 3rd. UFC newsletter subscribers will get to pick their seats today at 11 a.m. ET, before the general public on sale begins at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, January 5th.
