….And he continues to do it without breaking a sweat.
The only flyweight champion in UFC history may be the most complete champion the sport has ever seen. Demetrious Johnson (26-2-1) successfully defended his title for the 10th consecutive time tonight in the main event of UFC on FOX 24, tying the record held by former middleweight king Anderson Silva.
Like almost all of Johnson’s previous opponents, Brazil’s Wilson Reis (22-7) never had a chance in this one. As scripted, ‘Mighty Mouse’ played the role of the -1000 favorite to Reis’ +650 dog, submitting his blooded and battered Reis in the 3rd round of the title bout via armbar.
So, what’s next for Johnson? A move back up 135 lbs for the first time since 2011 may be in the cards if the UFC wants to give him a big enough payday to make it worth his while. If not, expect Silva’s record to be shattered next time the current P4P king enters the octagon.
