With the pure insanity that was UFC 223 now in the rearview, the Octagon heads to Glendale Arizona for a UFC on FOX card that features a main event that has fight of the year written all over it.
With a 3-fight unbeaten streak and a brand new contract with “championship language,” Dustin Poirier (22-5) will take on hometown slugger Justin Gaethje (18-1) in a lightweight battle scheduled for five rounds. This will be Gaethje’s first right since suffering his first career loss to Eddie Alvarez last November in Detroit at UFC 218. The fight earned Fight of the Year honors on FightBooth.com.
A welterweight battle between Carlos Condit and Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira will co-headline the card. Matt Brown was originally scheduled to take on Condit but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
This edition of Road to the Octagon follows Poirier, Gaethje, Condit, Oliveira and UFC strawweights Michelle Waterson (14-6) and Cortney Casey (7-5) as they all prepare for war in Glendale this coming Saturday night on FOX.
UFC on FOX 29 ‘Poirier vs. Gaethje’ begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on UFC Fight Pass before moving over to FOX at 6 p.m. ET.
