2013 Slammy Awards Predictions

When the WWE announced they were bringing back the Slammy’s I was mildly interested. My memories of the Slammy’s of old primarily center around Owen Hart carrying his around for months on end. The announced this year’s categories and I am going to try and pick both who WILL win, and more importantly, who SHOULD win each. Buckle in, it’s Slammy time!

Breakout Star of the Year

Nominees Are:

The Wyatt Family

Big E Langston

The Shield

The Envelope Please: This should undoubtedly be given to The Shield. They have virtually taken over the WWE and have dealt with every mega star Titan Sports has to offer. The Shield have become one of the driving forces in the WWE. If anyone else wins this, it’s a travesty.

This is Awesome Moment of the Year

Nominees Are:

Dolph Ziggler cashes in Money in the Bank

Daniel Bryan wins WWE title at Night of Champions

Big Show Knocks out HHH

Kofi Kingston’s chair hop to avoid elimination at Royal Rumble

The Envelope Please: The fact that Big Show and HHH are even on this list, speaks to what is wrong currently in the WWE. Kingston’s chair hop was definitely fun, but fans vote on this and the fans LOVE Daniel Bryan. Daniel Bryan will win this, but if I were picking, it would be Ziggler cashing MITB. Crazy night, crazy moment.

Trending Now, Hashtag of the Year

Nominees Are:

This one is a tossup as far as I’m concerned, because I like both Believeintheshield and WethePeople. I do think however, the fans will go with The Shield here. The Wyatt Family is deserving of some Slammy love, but they keep going up in categories with The Shield and that’s a tough act to follow. #BelieveintheShield because they’ll likely pick up a Slammy here.

Couple of the Year

The Nominees Are:

HHH and Stephanie

Fandango and Summer Rae

Tyson Kidd and Natalya

Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella

John Cena and Nikki Bella

Jimmy Uso and Naomi

Let’s just take these in order. HHH and Stephanie have about as much romantic chemistry as a box of kittens on fire. Fandango loves only himself. Tyson Kidd is just…I don’t know, odd. Daniel Bryan and Brie are a favorite here. John Cena and Nikki could gather the popular vote, although this is as dysfunctional a duo as I’ve ever seen. Jimmy Uso and Naomi should win, but won’t. They are one of the only reasons to watch Total Divas. It comes down to popularity, so expect Cena and Nikki to take home the Slammy, which John will not allow her to display in his home. 😉

Favorite Web Show

The Nominees Are:

WWE Inbox

30 Second Fury

JBL and Cole Show

WWE Top Ten

I have to keep it 100, I’ve never watched any of these, and only heard of one. I have NO IDEA…but if JBL gets a Slammy I’ll be disappointed. ECW fans never forget. He roughed up Blue Meanie and talked bad about the company. Don’t know, honestly don’t care. I’ll take 30 Second Fury I guess.

Feat of Strength of the Year

The Nominees Are:

Antonio Cesaro swings the Great Khali

Ryback Shellshocks Mark Henry

The Shield Triple Powerbomb The Big Show

Mark Henry pulls two trucks with bare hands

The Winner is: Antonio Cesaro swinging Khali should win this, without a doubt. He is unreasonably strong, and this swing showed that in a big, big way. Ryback Shellshocking Henry is impressive as well. Three guys powerbombing the Show isn’t a big deal…and Henry pulling a truck? Get out of here with that. Cesaro should win this. Plus, that guy NEEDS a Slammy.

Catchphrase of the Year

The Nominees Are:

Daniel Bryan: “YES! YES! YES!”

Mark Henry: “That’s what I do!”

Fandango: “Faaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhnnnn-daaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhnn-go”

Bray Wyatt: “Follow the Buzzards”

Real Americans “We the People”

The Shield: “Believe in the Shield”

The winner is: Come on….you think the fans aren’t going to give this to Daniel Bryan? You’re high! Daniel Bryan wins with his “Yes! Yes! Yes!” in a landslide.

Quote of the Year

Nominees Are:

“Paul, say something stupid” – Brock Lesnar

“Rise about this!” – Damien Sandow

“One stipulation, I’m in my boys’ corner and I’ll be your huckleberry all night long!” – Dusty Rhodes

Paul Heyman’s volcano tirade – Paul Heyman

Here’s the only rule of the Slammy’s. If you have the opportunity to give an award to Dusty Rhodes, you give Dusty Rhodes a damn award. Dusty with the Slammy…if ya will.

Best Dance Moves

Nominees Are:

Summer Rae

Great Khali

Mizco Inferno

If the WWE were doing this, it’d be the Funkadactyls, so they could argue about who deserves it more and tease their split. However the fans are voting, so expect it to go to R-Truth or Fandango. Doesn’t matter which.

Tag Team of the Year

The Nominees Are:

The Shield

The Prime Time Players

The Usos

Cody Rhodes and Goldust

The Real Americans

The winner is: This again, has to be The Shield. Props for Cody and Goldust coming on late, but nobody was as dominant as The Shield this year. No brainer.

You still go it/Best Return

The Nominees Are:

Rob Van Dam

Bella Twins

Bruno Sammartino

Chris Jericho

This one is tougher. Jericho came back and had some great moments, RVD came back and was excellent as well. Goldust has been solid since returning. Bruno is on the list as a nice kudos from HHH and The Bella Twins are so-so. I’d go ahead and give this to RVD, but I feel like the fans will give it to Goldust.

Faction of the Year

The Nominees Are:

The Shield

The Wyatt Family

The Real Americans

The winner is The Shield, yet again. They are starting to run away with this thing. They are deserving of cleaning house, and most deserving of this award. Nobody comes close. 3MB is not a faction…it’s just 3 guys who happen to job at the same time every week. Sorry I’m not sorry.

What a maneuver Award

The Nominees Are:

Daniel Bryan’s running knee strike

AJ Lee’s Black Widow

Roman Reigns’ Spear

Antonio Cesaro’s Swing

The fans will once again give the award to their favorite little Billy goat, Daniel Bryan. Props to Cesaro for his mighty swing, and Reigns for his Spear, but this is a slam dunk for Bryan.

Beard of the Year

Nominees Are:

Daniel Bryan

Wyatt Family

Damien Sandow

Zeb Colter

Daniel Bryan wins this again, and rightfully so. It’s a cruel world when you have a beard like Sandow’s, and can’t win a beard contest at work. Daniel Bryan by pure unkempt goodness.

Insult of the Year

The Nominees Are:

Stephanie McMahon degrades Big Show on Raw

AJ Lee disses the “Total Divas” cast on Raw

Paul Heyman disowns CM Punk

Zeb Colter offends the Universe

This one should go to AJ Lee and her epic RAW speech against the Divas. Solid performance by AJ and deserving a Slammy.

“LOL!” Moment of the Year

The Nominees Are:

The Rock Concert at Raw 20th Anniversary

Vickie Guerrero is fired as GM of Raw

Titus O’Neil throws up on JBL, Michael Cole and Zeb Colter on SmackDown

The Great Khali and Jinder Mahal try to charm Santino’s cobra on SmackDown

None of these moments really made me LOL. The Rock Concert was probably the best of these, and will most likely take home the big Slammy.

Double-Cross of the Year

The Nominees Are:

Triple H costs Daniel Bryan the WWE Championship at SummerSlam

Shawn Michaels Superkicks Daniel Bryan at Hell in a Cell

Mark Henry’s “retirement speech” on Raw

Paul Heyman costs CM Punk the Money in the Bank Contract at Money in the Bank

Lots to choose from here, and in all likelihood it’ll go to HHH double-crossing Bryan and starting the worst, most ill-conceived angle in recent memory. I would go with Henry’s retirement, because it was delivered so well, and was beyond the expectations I had for Henry.

Match of the Year

The Nominees Are:

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk at WrestleMania 29

The Rock vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 29

Cody Rhodes & Goldust (w/Dusty Rhodes) vs. Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns (w/Dean Ambrose) with the Rhodes Brothers’ jobs on the line at Battleground

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar in a Steel Cage Match at Extreme Rules

I loved The Undertaker vs. Punk at WM 29. I also really liked the physicality of Lesnar/HHH at Extreme Rules. It’s WM, and The Streak and it was a great match. So much heat for Punk coming into this. I’m going to say Undertaker/Punk get the Slammy.

Diva of the Year

The Nominees Are:

AJ Lee

The Bella Twins

The Funkadactyls

Eva Marie

And the winner is….Eva Marie! I kid, I kid. The fact that she’s on here is dumb. Natty and AJ are the two most deserving. You can’t argue with AJ Lee. She’s the champion and was involved in a lot of major angles this year. I think she had an amazing year, but heading into 2014, she needs to be worked on, because she’s not as over as she once was.

Superstar of the Year

The Nominees Are:

John Cena

Randy Orton

CM Punk

Daniel Bryan

Big Show

Brock Lesnar

John Cena had a good year, but didn’t have as good a year as Daniel Bryan did. I feel like Randy Orton has been hot for the past few months, but that doesn’t mean he had the best year. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are the favorites, as they both had great years, and made big jumps. Big Show, come on. Average year in a declining career. Lesnar had tons of heat and spots, but he’s too inconsistent to deserve this award. Cena, Bryan and Punk are the only ones who can lay claim to it. When you get right down to it, Bryan spent a lot of time with Kane, and not on top. Punk started off on fire, but has cooled in the past couple months since returning from injury. Cena was also on the sideline due to injury. This is tough…and I feel AJ Lee should be on the list as well. When it is all said and done, it’s not about how you open, it’s how you close…and nobody has closed hotter than Daniel Bryan, your 2013 Superstar of the Year!
