Adonis Stevenson vs Badou Jack to take place May 19 in Toronto

The WBC and WBA light heavyweight titles will be on the line in Toronto on May 19, as Adonis Stevenson and Badou Jack meet at the Air Canada Center. Stevenson, a Haitian-Canadian who won silver for Canada in the 2006 Commonwealth Games, has spent the majority of his career taking fights in Canada and most recently fought in Montreal. It was known from early on that his fight against Badou Jack would take place in Canada, and there were reports circulating that it might take place in Montreal or Quebec City.

However, Stevenson will return to Toronto for the first time since 2015, when he defeated Tommy Karpency at the Ricoh Coliseum. This fight will be on a much bigger stage, as it is scheduled to take place at the Air Canada Center. Stevenson is the WBC and lineal light heavyweight champion and has eight title defenses so far, after winning the belt and lineal title in 2013. His opponent, Badou Jack, is a former two weight champion who held the WBC super middleweight and WBA light heavyweight titles.

Stevenson has already shown confidence in winning the fight and defending his titles. “I’m fighting him at home in Canada, so I’m looking to give the fans a good show. I’ve got power and I’ve got the best left hook in boxing. I’ve got 12 rounds and I just need to touch you once to end it. It’s not complicated. I don’t need three or four shots. I just need one shot and you’re not going to recover. I’m going to finish you.”

Jack will attempt to win his second light heavyweight title, after taking the WBA belt by defeating Nathan Cleverly on the undercard of the Mayweather vs McGregor superfight last year. His fight with Stevenson will be televised on Showtime, and is being promoted by GYM Promotions, Mayweather Promotions, and Lee Baxter Promotions, according to Premier Boxing Champions.
