Amanda Nunes too ill to compete at UFC 213, Romero-Whittaker moved to main event

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes has been taken off tonight’s UFC 213 card in Las Vegas. The champ was reportedly feeling ill in the lead up to her main event bout with Valentina Shevchenko but doctors could not find any issue. Earlier this afternoon, Nunes decided that she could not fight.
Since Nunes pulled out on the day of the fight the UFC has no other option than to promote the interim middleweight title bout between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker to the main event. A bantamweight bout between Douglas Silva de Andrade and Rob Font will move from the UFC Fight Pass portion of the card to the main card as a result.
UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk offered her services as a fill in for Nunes but that would be impossible due to the size discrepancy.

The card will move on with 11 fights and refunds will be available for tickets holders at the point of sale.
