UFC on FOX 20 Highlight: Edson Barboza vs. Gilbert Melendez

Edson Barboza improved his record to (18-4) tonight against former Strikeforce lightweight champion and UFC #1 contender Gilbert Melendez (22-6) in the co-main event on UFC on FOX 20.
Barboza targeted the lead left leg of Melendez from the start, eventually taking it out of the equation making it impossible for “El Nino” to turn the fight into a brawl like he wanted to. While Melendez was able to rock Barboza with a right hand in the middle stanza, it would only be enough to steal one round on just one of the judges scorecards.
The story of this fight was Barboza’s patience and his elite kicking game. With two straight wins over two of the greatest lightweights of all-time in Anthony Pettis and now Gilbert Melendez, this win inserts Barboza into the title conversation in a division that is easily the deepest in the sport.
