Bellator 112 Results: Pat Curran finishes Daniel Straus in thrilling rematch

Talk about true grit. In a rematch that had folks complaining about why it had been made in the first place, Pat Curran and Daniel Straus delivered what easily has to be considered the fight of the year thus far. Heading into the fifth round it appeared that the current champ, Straus, had to of been up on the judges scorecards. Curran need a finish in the final five minutes. He did just that.

With a about a minute left in the contest Curran went for a Hail Mary rear naked choke finish to secure the victory. It looked like it would be too little too late for Curran, but you had to give him an A for the effort nonetheless. Straus appeared fine giving the referee the thumbs up and with time on his side he seemed content with waiting things out to get the decision victory. That was until he just couldn’t take anymore and was forced to verbally and physically tap out from Curran’s desperate hold with 14 seconds left in the fight. Curran would finish what had been a total dog fight and Straus would congratulate him with a long hug, kind words and a big smile; one that almost made you think he just choked a man out to win a world championship. Later on in the night you would see Straus being consoled by his teammates outside of the cage after the smoke had cleared.

So there you have it folks. There’s a reason why Bellator had invoked a rematch clause. Fight like this third one between Curran and Straus, and of course the 2nd and upcoming trilogy bout between Alvarez and Chandler, these are fights that are worth the risk of letting your tournament winners sit for a couple of extra months.
