Bellator 197 Results: Chandler puts Girtz to sleep in record-breaking performance

Published

Despite not getting the fight that he wanted, hometown hero Michael Chandler was still able to get the victory in front of his friends and family just miles away from his stomping grounds in High Ridge, Missouri.

Chandler was originally scheduled to take on current lightweight champ Brent Primus in a rematch of their bout from last summer that saw the title change hands due to a freak ankle injury to Chandler early on in the first round. After Primus withdrew due to a knee injury, Bellator vet Brandon Girtz would be called upon on short notice to fill in.

Chandler would make quick work of Girtz, sending the fans home happy with a first round submission victory. As you can see in the highlight package above, Chandler separated the shoulder of Girtz with a slam before putting him to sleep with a arm-triangle choke.

Chandler now holds multiple records for the promotion including most wins, most finishes and most submissions, following his latest victory.

With all 11 of his victories coming under the Bellator banner, the undefeated AJ McKee appears to be more than ready for a top competitor inside of the 145 lbs division. His lopsided decision victory over the ultra tough Justin Lawerence last night was easily his most well rounded performance to date.

Also on the card, Baby Slice, son of the late Kimbo Slice, opened up the main card on Paramount with a quick victory over Devon Brock in their catchweight affair. Slice landed a right hand behind the ear early before trading in his ground and pound for a rear-naked choke when it became clear that his opponent would not succumb to strikes.
