Canelo-GGG rematch cancelled; GGG to face replacement opponent

The biggest boxing match of the year has been cancelled.
Canelo Alvarez withdrew from his rematch with Gennady Golovkin earlier today due to an inevitable upcoming suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Alvarez came up positive for Clenbuterol, causing him to fail two drug tests back in February.
The Ring magazine Middleweight champion continues to claim that these tests returned positive due to him ingesting tainted meat in Mexico while training for the bout.
GGG released the following statement after learning of Alvarez’s withdrawal:
“I am looking forward to returning to Las Vegas for my 20th title defense and headlining my first Cinco De Mayo event on May 5. It is time for less drama and more fighting.”
A replacement opponent for GGG is expected to be announced soon.
