Chael Sonnen versus Tito Ortiz to headline Bellator 170 on Jan 21st

“The Bad Guy” and “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” will do battle inside of The Forum in Inglewood early next year.

When Chael Sonnen (28-14-1) signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator last month it shocked the MMA world. When he put Tito Ortiz (18-2-1) at the top of the laundry list of opponents he’d like to face – it almost made too much sense. It was just a matter of time before the fight became official.

The fight will air live on Spike TV and will be contested at 205 lbs, the same division that saw Ortiz successfully defended his UFC light heavyweight title five times during his prime years in the sport. Sonnen would be given three shots at the UFC world title during his tenure, the last one coming against Jon Jones for that same title Ortiz held for 1,260 days.

Since making his Bellator debut in 2014, Ortiz holds a record of 2-1 with the promotion. His most recent fight against Liam McGeary for the undefeated Brit’s light heavyweight belt ended late in the 1st round via submission.

Ortiz versus Sonnen will arguably be the biggest and will certainly be the most high-profile main event in Bellator MMA history.
