CM Punk versus Mickey Gall is officially a reality

Published

on

It only took New Jersey’s Mickey Gall (2-0) 45 seconds to cash in his golden ticket to become thee guy to welcome Phil “CM Punk” Brooks (0-0) into the world-famous octagon.

Punk, who announced his move to the world of professional mixed martial arts back in late 2014, looked extremely aroused upon learning who his first opponent would be this past weekend in Vegas as evidenced by his interview with Ariel Helwani below.

When will this fight take place? Well, Punk is still pushing for his debut to take place on the most important card of the year, UFC 200, which will be the first MMA event to take place inside of the brand new T-Mobile Arena on July 9th. UFC President Dana White on the other hand has been vocal about Punk’s debut being part of the UFC 199 ‘Rockhold vs. Weidman 2’ card which will take place sometime in June at a venue TBA.

As our very own Dwayne Wolff recently explained on the 9th episode of the TLFMMA podcast, UFC 199 is the correct spot for a Punk-Gall fight from a business standpoint. Let’s face it, UFC 200 sells itself. 199’s job more than anything is to help further bolster 200’s buys by putting those three letters followed by the number 200 into the minds of every competitive sports fan in the world today.

UFC 200 needs to be all about the best of the best that professional mixed martial arts has to offer. CM Punk versus Mickey Gall just does not offer that; this fight is a circus sideshow that whether you like it or not is very necessary to get hundreds of thousands of new eyes onto the sport if it is marketed in the correct manner – which it will be.
