189-2

Since returning to welterweight back in 2013, Fight Booth 2014 Fighter of the Year Robbie Lawler (25-10 MMA, 10-4 UFC) has been the best man inside of his weight class. And now he has the belt to prove it.

On July 11th, in the co-main event of UFC 189, Lawler will attempt to become only the 4th welterweight in UFC history to successfully defend his title. He would join some pretty impressive company in current UFC Hall of Famers Matt Hughes and Pat Miletich. He’d also be joining a man who helped groom his opponent on the night – Canadian legend Georges St. Pierre.

Back in 2006, at 25 years of age, St. Pierre defeated Matt Hughes to win his first world UFC world title. This Saturday night in Vegas, another 25-year-old out of Montreal will have the opportunity to bring that belt back to Canada. In Rory MacDonald (18-2, 9-2 UFC), Tristar and Firas Zahabi have the perfect successor to the most complete mixed martial artist of all-time.

The following edition of UFC ‘Countdown’ gives us an inside look at both competitors camps; it also shows us that each man is even more dangerous than the last time they met fought in 2013, a fight that would earn Lawler his first UFC title shot via a razor thin split decision victory. Keep in mind – that fight was only three rounds. Will they go the distance in a title fight scheduled for five? Tell us what you think about the rematch in our comments section below.
