Cub Swanson vs. Brian Ortega featherweight main event set for UFC Fresno

An exciting bout in the UFC featherweight division has been announced as the headliner for the recently announced UFC Fight Night 123 card in Fresno.

13-fight UFC veteran Cub Swanson (25-7) will lock horns with the undefeated Brian Ortega (12-0) on December 9th in a fight that will help decide a future challenger for the title currently held by Max Holloway. The event is set to go down inside of Fresno’s SaveMart Arena. Swanson confirmed the match up on his Instagram page just moments ago.

Sandwiched in between a 6-fight win streak from 2012-2014, and his current 4-fight win streak, Swanson suffered submission losses to Frankie Edgar and Holloway, taking him out of contention for the 145 lbs strap. A victory over Ortega puts him right back into the thick of things considering the shallowness of the division and that the two men he lost to are rumored to be fighting for the title before the year is out.

Another intriguing bout between two former women’s bantamweight title challengers will also take place on this card. Here’s a look at the UFC Fight Night 123 ‘Swanson vs. Ortega’ as it stands today:
