Derrick Lewis did us all a favor at UFC Zagreb

Immediately following his 3rd straight KO/TKO victory this past weekend in Croatia, Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis (15-4) made waves by calling out one of the most recognizable heavyweights in the world today.

Lewis’ fists earned him his first UFC performance of the night bonus, which netted him an extra $50K. His mouth earned him the biggest fight of his life after KO’ing a former #1 contender in Gabriel Gonzaga (17-11).

When Lewis called out Roy “Big Country” Nelson (21-12) he did everyone a favor. And by everyone I mean Joe Silva, Roy Nelson, the fans and most importantly himself. This was the obvious next match for both men and it’s one that we may or may not have been blind and deaf to if Lewis didn’t hit us right over the head with it following his nasty KO victory over the a grizzled vet in Gonzaga.

By accepting the challenge of the “Black Beast,” Nelson made it all but official. This is a fight that you can put wherever you please. Fight Pass headliner, UFC PPV opener, FS1 and/or UFC on FOX co-headliner – take your pick. It doesn’t really matter. And you can thank Derrick Lewis for making it happen.
