Nate Diaz versus Georges St-Pierre, at 155 lbs, sounds like the kind of fantasy matchup that is often speculated about on message boards and social media. Even when the fight was speculated to be at welterweight, a lot of people didn’t think that the rumors were anything more than just that, rumors. However, it looks like there’s substance to the reports that the UFC wants to match up Nate Diaz and Georges St-Pierre in a lightweight fight.
Hearing GSP vs. Nate Diaz is possibly being planned for August 4. Guess no Georges-Conor or Georges-Khabib fight in the near future if true.

Mike Russell reported on Sunday that the fight was being planned for August 4. Now, it looks like that report is accurate. Dana White revealed through the UFC Unfiltered podcast that the fight is being targeted for that date, and that it would take place in the lightweight division. “It is true and they would fight at 155-pounds… In my perfect world, if everything goes perfect, and nothing ever goes perfect in this world, [it will be] Dillashaw vs Garbrandt, GSP vs Diaz would be the co-main.”
Additionally, White confirmed that the UFC is targeting a fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Luke Rockhold, which would happen on the same card. However, the fight won’t be for an interim belt, as some speculated. “There are rumors that we were doing Gustafsson versus Rockhold. That is true, but that is not for the interim title.”
Both Nate Diaz and Alexander Gustafson have had long layoffs. Diaz would fight for the first time since the August of 2016, when he took on Conor McGregor in a rematch. Gustafsson hasn’t fought since May 2017, when he defeated Glover Teixeira by knockout.
Georges St-Pierre, on the other hand, fought as recently as last year and held the middleweight title before vacating it due to injury. Luke Rockhold fought for the interim middleweight belt in February but was knocked out in the third round by Yoel Romero, making Gustafsson a good bounce back fight for him.
It will certainly be interesting to see if the UFC can make these matches happen, and if they do, UFC 227 will definitely be one of the more stacked cards of the entire year.
