Emanuel Newton brought the ‘Hardcore’ to Michigan last night

Emanuel Newton entered the Bellator cage in Plymouth, Michigan last night to defend his undisputed light heavyweight strap for the very first time. His opponent, the always exciting Joey Beltran, was coming into the bout with just one win to his name over his last six fights. Many felt that he didn’t deserve to be in this situation. Regardless, he certainly made the best of it. Beltran had Newton in a bit of hot water as the fight progressed.

It was all about pressure for Beltran heading into this contest with the champ. He brought it early and often, and for the 1st round it wasn’t an issue for Newton. As the fight progressed, Newton was visibly have a difficult time with Beltran’s in your face style. Newton found himself in back pedaling mode before we even got near the championship rounds. He was missing wildly on his spinning attacks as well. Turns out he was just doing what champions do best. Adapting to the situation before him and waiting for that one special moment. One that all of the fans in attendance tonight inside of the home of the Plymouth Whalers won’t soon forget.

Make that two highlight reel spinning back fist KO’s for Newton (relive the King Mo shocker here) now in his Bellator career. That’s just one of the many reasons they call him ‘The Hardcore Kid’. That DX walkout was pretty magical too.
