Extreme Rules ‘Reigns vs. Styles’ quick picks

The road to Ryback Extreme Rules 2016 ends in Newark, New Jersey where things are scheduled to get “Extreme” inside of the Prudential Center. See who dw_reno has winning below by reading his “quick and dirty” picks for the 8th edition of WWE Extreme Rules and see how long it takes him to mention the word Extreme more than we just did. Hint – he won’t.
No DQ Match (Pre-Show)
Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler
50/50 booking here, right? Ziggler beat Corbin at Payback so we’ll just say “The Lone Wolf” gets payback at Extreme Rules. Corbin winning means this is hopefully the ‘End of Days’ for this weak feud involving two solid talents that need to move on to greener pastures.
Texas Tornado Tag Team Match
The Club (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) vs. The Usos
Should be a really cool match with a lot of fun spots. I fully expect Gallows & Anderson to destroy The Usos here in an effort to take them out of the equation when their buddy AJ Styles fights for the World Heavyweight Title against Roman Reigns in the main event of the evening. This will help the storyline along and I’ll talk about that more in the main event prediction. Gallows & Anderson via destruction.
WWE United States Championship
Kalisto (c) vs. Rusev w/ Lana
This one almost makes too much sense so I’ll probably be dead wrong. Rusev defeats Kalisto and becomes Bantha Cena fodder when “The Face That Runs The Place” returns on Memorial Day.
WWE Tag Team Championship
The New Day (c) vs. The Vaudevillains
Things have been too good for The New Day for too long. Expect some trouble in paradise for the champs as they drop the titles to The Vaudevillains on this night. Don’t fear though. This only means one thing, they’ll be able to call themselves your 3-time WWE tag team champions when they win the straps back in the Summer.
Asylum Match
Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho
Again, 50-50 booking makes this one an easy pick and that’s ok. I mean after all, Ambrose better win this one, right? Let’s just hope it’s something more violent than goofy. Let’s just hope he ties up Jericho in a straight jacket and gives him the “Dirty Deeds” instead of breaking Mitch 2.0 over his head for the win. This PG era needs at least one hardcore feud and right now Ambrose needs to be promoted as the king of hardcore. There’s no better time to do that than at Extreme Rules. Bring back the Hardcore Championship!
Fatal 4-Way Intercontinental Championship
The Miz (c) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro
With Maryse by his side and the IC title over his shoulder for the 5th time, The Miz character has never been better. It’d be a shame to end his title reign this early but how good would it be to watch Owens and Zayn trade the title back and forth for the rest of 2016? How good would a summer full of Cesaro title defenses and uppercut parties be? The correct answer is that it’s all too good to be true. The Miz retains.
Women’s Championship Match (Submission Match)
Charlotte (c) vs. Natalya
Pretty easy pick here on paper. With Ric Flair banned from ringside, Charlotte is able to defeat Natalya clean. She believes that she no longer needs her Dad to win moving forward which means we’ll see a dramatic (hopefully a little more dramatic than the end of the League of Nations) family break up and a nice one on one feud between Charlotte and Sasha Banks beginning at MITB.
World Heavyweight Championship (Extreme Rules Match)
With so many big stars (Cena, Orton, Wyatt & Rollins) coming back within the next couple of weeks it’s probably time for what has been a surprisingly solid post WrestleMania 32 main event program to end. The big question is – how will it end? With so many seeds being planted since Gallows & Anderson rejoined their former Bullet Club bestie, I see the former 3-time IWGP tag champs costing Styles the title leading to some in-house drama that will only heighten when Finn Bálor joins the main roster next month. Reigns retains and we see one of the aforementioned top guys target him immediately upon their return.
