Gennady Golovkin was able to keep his perfect record intact last night inside of ‘The Mecca’ but it wasn’t without controversy and suspense.
Golovkin (37-0) bested Daniel Jacobs (32-2) via unanimous decision (114-113, 115-112 x 2) in what has been the toughest test of his career thus far. This was the first time Golovkin was forced to the distance since all the way back in 2008 – putting an end to his 23-fight KO streak.
GGG will move into the top spot in the P4P rankings next time they are tallied after the consensus top ranked fighter in the world, Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, suffered the first defeat of his career in the co-main event of the evening against Thai fighter Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. This fight is already being hailed as the early favorite for fight of the year. Sor Rungvisai was a +1000 favorite heading into the contest.
