UFC Fight Night 45 Results: Gadelha and Lahdemaki make history

claudiatina45History was made in Atlantic City last night when Claudia Gadelha and Tina Lahdemaki fought to the finish in a contest worthy of forever being labeled the first fight in UFC women’s strawweight history.

From the word go we were reminded why Gadelha has been highly regarded as a future champion at 115 lbs by those in the know. She came into the contest carrying a sterling record of 11-0 with 8 finishes against an undefeated fighter in her own right, the tough as nails Fin, Lahdemaki.

The FS1 commentary team of Jon Anik and Brian Stann were quick to point out Gadelha’s  issues with weight cutting, the lone issue for the Nova Uniao BJJ black belt heading into this fight. It’s the reason she won’t be on the upcoming season of TUF 20, but it certainly wasn’t an issue in this fight. There were a handful of moments in the first couple of rounds where it looked like Gadelha, a sizeable -500 favorite, was going to finish the fight. Credit to Lahdemaki for pushing Gadelha to the limit – she was a threat to the final bell. In the end though, it would be Gadelha cementing herself as the #1 contender for whomever emerges the inaugural UFC strawweight champion coming out of the unprecedented 20th offering of The Ultimate Fighter in Las Vegas this Summer.

Final Result: Claudia Gadelha (12-0) defeats Tina Lahdemaki (5-1) via UD (30-26, 30-27 x 2)
