Goldberg talks potential WWE in-ring return on ‘Off the Top Rope’

Over the past couple of days, multiple reliable sources have reported that the ink is all but dry on a match between Bill Goldberg and Brock Lesnar to take place and that the match could go down as early as Survivor Series this November in Toronto. Tonight, Goldberg spoke with Jonathan Coachman on his weekly Off the Top Rope Sportscenter segment to shed some more light on his future.
Goldberg didn’t announce anything official about a return to in-ring competition nor did he rule it out. He did speak a lot about wanting to give his son a “real-time moment” of him being a superhero.
“You know, I’ve been preparing to answer that question for 12 years,” Goldberg told Coach when he asked him about a potential WWE return match. Goldberg’s last match on the books took place at WrestleMania 20 against Brock Lesnar, where he would emerge victorious before calling it a career. “Look at me Coach, I’m an old man here. I’m 49 years old,” Goldberg continued. “It’s something I gotta think abut. I got a 10-year-old boy…the biggest thing being a professional wrestler was the ability to be a superhero for kids… I want the ability to be that guy again but there’s a compromise. To be that guy at 49-years-old – you risk losing that legacy.”
Goldberg did make it clear that if he does come back it will be against Brock Lesnar. “I was able to prosper and have my hand raised at the first meeting,” Goldberg explained. “I think if I ever came back that’d be the match. Brock’s a different human being. As a matter of fact, he’s probably not even a human being. He’s like a superhero alien guy.”
If Goldberg is going to appear as soon as Survivor Series, he kept that news very close to the vest. When asked about a potential timeline for a return, Goldberg said he doesn’t really know how long it would be before we could see him in the ring again. “I have no idea. This is uncharted ground. You never say never. If anyone can do it, it’s me for God’s sake. I’m gonna do a lot of soul-searching and talk to my family. I don’t wanna bastardize anything I did. Give me till the end of the year for God’s sake.”
You still have time to pre-order WWE2K17 to unlock Goldberg as a playable character before the game is officially released next Tuesday, October 11th. Until then, gives us your thoughts on a potential Goldberg return to the ring in the comments section below or hit us up on Twitter @Wrestling Desk.
