Jinder Mahal’s SummerSlam opponent is….

After defeating Randy Orton in a Punjabi Prison match this past Sunday night, Jinder Mahal has close “The Viper” chapter of his current WWE Championship reign. Sans The Singh Brothers and with The Great Khali nowhere to be seen tonight in Richmond, Virginia, The “Modern Day Maharaja” made it clear, actually, he demanded that an opponent be set for his next major title defense next month in Brooklyn at SummerSlam.

Mahal’s call would be answered by none other than your 16-time World Champion himself, John Cena.

After some fanfare, Cena introduced himself to Mahal, before stating that he’d leave SummerSlam as a 17-time world champion. Smackdown Live GM Daniel Bryan quickly put the kibosh on Cena’s announcement, stating that everything must be earned on Smackdown Live – even if you’re name is John Cena. Bryan then announced a match between Cena and Shinsuke Nakamura (who was able to defeat Baron Corbin earlier on in the night) for next week’s episode. The winner will go on to face Mahal at SummerSlam.
Here’s a look at WWE’s 2017 SummerSlam offering thus far:
Universal Championship (Fatal 4-Way)
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman vs. Samoa Joe

Jinder Mahal (c) vs. John Cena vs. Shinsuke Nakamura winner (Tuesday, August 1st – SD Live)
