JoJo Calderwood and Cortney Casey-Sanchez deliver as promised in Glasgow

“It wasn’t pressure, it was pleasure” – Joanne Calderwood to Brain Stann post-fight
Cortney-Casey Sanchez delivered on her show stealing promise in her UFC debut against Joanne “JoJo” Calderwood – and then some. Casey took the fight to Calderwood immediately, forcing the hometown favorite to clinch up and regain her senses after eating some hard shots from the Maui native in the opening frame.
In the end, it would be a war of attrition that would favor Calderwood. The Whispering Scottish Assassin would batter her opponent with knees, elbows, and lethal kicks to earn a unanimous decision victory. There was one moment where it appeared to be over just under a minute into the final stanza. Calderwood attacked Casey with a spinning kick to the body, sending her down to the canvas to eat a brutal buffet of elbows and punches to the head and body while she somehow recovered.
From then on, Calderwood called for Casey to rise back up every single time she attempted to coax her into coming down to the ground. Although JoJo didn’t end up getting the finish she wanted, both girls earned a well deserved $50K fight of the night bonus for putting on an instant classic in Glasgow. The highlight package below actually does a solid job of showing how incredible this back and forth battle between these two warriors truly was.
