Jon Jones suffers injury; Cormier title fight moved to next year

The most anticipated title fight of the fall will have to wait until next year. UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming title defense against undefeated challenger, and verbal sparring partner, Daniel Cormier.
The fight was scheduled to take place on September 27th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. FOX Sports 1 was the first to break this unfortunate news.
Fisticuffs and verbal warfare were just some of the highlights from what was an entertaining week doing media for Jones and DC last week. According to the UFC, the fight has been rescheduled as the headliner for UFC 182. That event will take place on January 3rd.
The new headliner for UFC 178 will the former co-main event of UFC 177, a flyweight title bout between four-time defending champion Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso.
According to MMAJunkie, the injuries that forced Jones off the card were a torn meniscus and a sprained ankle. Hopefully neither of these injuries took place last Monday during that memorable media day exchange.
