Michael Bisping vs. Luke Rockhold is official for UFC Fight Night 55 in Sydney

rp_bispingfox2.jpgSay what you want about Michael Bisping. His trash talk continues to get him big fights.

On this evenings FOX Sports 1 pre-fight festivities ahead of UFC Fight Night 50, Bisping revealed that he will be taking on top middleweight contender Luke Rockhold. The fight, which will be scheduled for five rounds, will serve as the headliner for the UFC’s November 8th’s visit to Sydney, Australia for Fight Night 55.

The two men have a history of trading barbs over social media. Rockhold called out middleweight #1 contender Vitor Belfort and Bisping after his impressive inverted triangle kimura finish over Tim Boestch this past Spring. Bisping was a bit more direct when he called out Rockhold, and only Rockhold, after he dismantled Cung Le last month in Macau. Here’s what he told Kenny Florian in his in cage post-fight interview.

There’s an idiot called Luke Rockhold who doesn’t stop talking about me. I think he has the hots for me to be honest. Luke Rockhold, you called me out – if you wanna do it, let’s dance. Here I am. I’m gonna beat Luke Rockhold and I’m taking the title. Make no mistake.

If it’s within reason, what ‘The Count’ wants, he usually gets. Lyoto Machida was rumored to be next for Rockhold until the Twitter warfare and Macao call out likely swayed the UFC brass to give Bisping, an all around company man, what he wanted. It pays to be the king of the grudge match if you can back it up. Bisping, who tends to lose the big one again and again, still continues to win the fights he’s supposed to win. His most recent win over Le has once again given him new life. Bisping’s name value and his mouthpiece means he’s always only one big win away from a title shot. Luke Rockhold is that big win. Expect this one to continue to get uglier before it even begins.
