North Wrestling NCL: ‘Brace Yourself’ live event review

I just love when I find little gems in the wrestling world. I can sit back and binge watch the awesomeness that is pro wrestling. The British indie scene is on fire right now, and I was lucky enough to stumble upon a new promotion, that I’m quite high on at the moment. What’s this promotion that I’m talking about you ask? This promotion is North Wrestling NCL. North Wrestling NCL caters to the young adult demographic of wrestling fans and brings some of the best talent in the UK to show their goods to a very opinionated, crass crowd, that is not afraid to break into a synchronized chant at the drop of a dime.
Many of the talent on the card for this show will be participating in the WWE UK tournament next week. So, if you subscribe to the WWE brand you should check out these wrestlers before they’re the talk of the town on Twitter. Okay, now that I’ve plugged WWE in this article, let’s get to the highlights of the this fantastic free event:
Jack Gallagher vs. El Ligero
I am such a fan of Jack Gallagher, from his work in Progress to the stunning display in the Cruiserweight Classic and 205 live this match was no exception. I knew that Gallagher was going to bring masterful holds and brilliant submissions, however, his opponent, El Ligero, held his own and truly impressed me as well. This bout was filled with so many twist and turns that if you blinked, you’d miss a lifetime’s worth of wrestling. The segment of attempted pins from both opponents in the middle of the match was creative and all around humorous. Jack’s ability to play to the crowd and mock his opponent is very entertaining and makes him a well rounded wrestler who has a great future ahead of him.
Martin Kirby vs. Pete Dunne
Kirby starts this match out by offering up a handshake as a sign of respect, but, of course the ‘young and bitter’ Pete Dunne wants none of it. The twisting and mangling of Martin Kirby in the beginning of this bout, just shows the cerebral nature of the bruiser weight Pete Dunne. I have to put him on the top of my heel list. Love his work. His attacks are so calculated and just..down right, nasty. The finger biting, the stomps to the hands and head are just beautiful. Kirby wouldn’t give up and I even started chanting with the fans for him to make a comeback. Kirby made a comeback, however it wasn’t enough for him to pickup the win. This is a feud that I’m happy to see didn’t end with just one match or even within one promotion. I love both competitors but I am officially a Pete Dunne girl!
Tyler Bate and Chris Brookes vs. Jason Prime and Alex Henry
All around the globe, there has been an influx on tremendous tag teams and
North Wrestling NCL is no exception. Both teams brought a tough, rough ’em up style, to the match and in the beginning, I quite enjoyed the strength contest and the playing to the crowd. Tyler Bate was the star of the match with his cheeky humor and proud stance. The sick antics of Tyler and Chris Brookes will be etched in the memory of all the fans in attendance. This match delivered great wrestling and epic chants. Good times were had by all in attendance and me watching in my Christmas PJs!
HT Drake vs. Liam Thomsan
If I have to be honest, this match didn’t scream main event as I was watching it. The matches prior to this took all of my adrenaline, I didn’t have anything left. One highlight from the match though was when the fight moved to the bar area. That brought the crowd in and raised the stakes. I truly think this match would’ve served better as an opener because of the energy of the competitors. I am looking forward to seeing more from these two in the future.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this show, as my guilty pleasure viewing on Christmas Eve. The only gripe that I have, is the sound cutting off on the entrance music. That particular glitch took me away from the moment, but other than that, I would recommend this, as a must watch for FightBooth readers. Start off the New Year by checking out this new and exciting promotion.
