Pre-sale event poster for UFC 178 released; Poirier vs. McGregor set for co-main event

Sorry Kings of Leon. The Nashville based rock band was originally slated to play the MGM Grand Garden arena as a stop on their 2014 Mechanical Bull Tour on Saturday September 27th. Unfortunately for them, big fights take precedence over everything else in Las Vegas.
The particular fight in question pits the longest reigning champion in the UFC today, Jon Jones, against his toughest challenge today, Swedish ‘Mauler’ Alexander Gustafsson, in the biggest rematch of the year. Jones defeated Gustafsson in a razor-thin unanimous decision last fall in Toronto in a fight that has been watched more than any other in the UFC’s extensive Fight Pass library.
Earlier today it was announced that another big fight would be added to this already ample card. Fresh off his main event obliteration of Diego Brandao, Dublin’s Conor McGregor will look to make it a perfect 4-0 since joining the UFC ranks when he takes on ultra crafty UFC and WEC Dustin Poirier in a high stakes featherweight showdown. Poirier holds the most wins in UFC featherweight history with 8 since making his company debut back on New Years Day 2011.
