Ricky Simon signs with the UFC just moments after LFA 36 victory
“Could be the last time we see Ricky Simon inside the LFA octagon.” – Jon Kruk
And it would be. Just moments after defending his LFA bantamweight title in dominating fashion, Ricky Simon became the last addition to the UFC roster.
Simon finished his opponent, Vinicius Zani, just 59 seconds into the main event of the show. Both men engaged in a firefight from the opening bell, but it’d be Simon who would be able to land the more effective shots, landing a left to the body before landing one to the head that would put Zani against the cage where Simon would finish him off for good.
Simon joins a loaded UFC 135 lbs division where 2-time champ T.J. Dillashaw currently resides as king after finishing Cody Garbrandt via KO at UFC 217 in New York. Dillshaw is expected to make the first defense in his second reign as champ sometime this summer against either the man who ended his first reign, former 2-time champ Dominick Cruz, or Garbrandt in an instant rematch. The proposed superfight between Dillshaw and flyweight champ, “Mighty Mouse’ Demetrious Johnson, appears to be off the table according to UFC President Dana White.
