Robbie Lawler vs. Rafael dos Anjos headlines ‘UFC on FOX: Winnipeg’

A pivotal welterweight bout featuring two former world champions will headline the UFC’s next offering on FOX.

Former 2-time defending UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler (28-11) will look to continue his road back to gold in Winnipeg on December 16th live on FOX. Standing in his way will be former UFC lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos (27-9).

This would’ve been considered a fight for P4P supremacy just over one year ago when both of these veterans were at the very top of their respective divisions. Now, it’ll be Lawler looking to hold position as the top contender in his division against a surging Dos Anjos who has aspirations of becoming a 2-division champion.

After losing his 170 lbs title via KO to Tyron Woodley last summer, Lawler would bounce back with a unanimous decision victory over the UFC’s resident ‘Cowboy’, Donald Cerrone, nearly a year later at UFC 214.

For Dos Anjos, the move up in weight came after two consecutive losses; the TKO loss to Eddie Alvarez that saw him lose his title followed by a unanimous decision defeat to now current interim 155 lbs king, Tony Ferguson. Dos Anjos kicked off his welterweight campaign with a victory over former Strikeforce champ Tarec Saffiedine. He’d follow it up with a quick arm-triangle submission victory over Neil Magny in Edmonton last month at UFC 214. He’ll look to recapture some of that Western Canadian magic when he faces Lawler at UFC on FOX 26.
