Ronda Rousey comments on being named 2014’s Best Female Athlete

The 22nd annual edition of The ESPYS, hosted by Drake, aired tonight on ESPN. Why do we care? We don’t. I’ll be honest, I didn’t watch a second of it.
I do however dabble in the social media a little so when I heard a little blurb about Ronda Rousey winning female fighter of the year across my feed I decided to do some research. Apparently, Ronda beat out Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx, Olympic Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and U-Conn B-ball’er Breanna Stewart to become the first mixed martial artist to ever take home an ESPY.
Rousey joins the likes of former ESPY winners Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Lindsey Vonn, Steffi Graff, Mia Hamm, and Monica Seles after being named the 2014 female athlete of the year tonight inside of Los Angeles’ Nokia Arena, which has been the setting of the ESPYS since 2008.
Rousey is likely to return to the octagon at UFC 182 on January 3rd against an opponent yet to be named. If you can’t wait until then you can catch her on August 15th when she adds a little female flavor to the third installment of the ensemble action franchise The Expendables.
