Sami Zayn returns to WWE; attacks Kevin Owens in Chicago

2014 NXT superstar of the year Sami Zayn made his third appearance on Monday Night RAW earlier tonight in Chicago and this time – he just may be on the main roster to stay.

Last May, the crowd roared when Zayn was introduced by WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart in Montreal as the surprise opponent for John Cena’s United States open challenge. Unfortunately, Zayn would throw out his shoulder before he even entered the ring, suffering an injury that left him sidelined until late last year. Being the competitor that he is, Zayn would still finish his match with Cena and he’d even go on to take on Kevin Owens later on that month at NXT: Unstoppable to continue their storyline before heading in for shoulder surgery.

Tonight in Chicago, Zayn returned to make the save after Owens, the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, continued to beat on another former NXT champ, Neville, following their match.

Zayn and Owens began their feud in the WWE Universe at the end of 2014 after Sami defeated Neville to become NXT champion. Owens came out to congratulate Zayn following his big win before betraying him by delivering him a vicious powerbomb on the outside apron.

Zayn and Owens have put on plenty of classic matches under different names for different promotions over the years. After Zayn’s appearance tonight, it’s looking like they may just get to battle for the IC title at the granddaddy of them all on April 3rd. You’d be hard pressed to find two men more deserving; if given the proper amount of time – they may even steal the show.

For what it’s worth, Zayn is currently scheduled to take on Shinsuke Nakamura (who will be making his NXT debut on the night) at NXT TakeOver: Dallas on April 1st, two nights before WrestleMania 32.
