Silva-Diaz confirmed for Super Bowl Weekend

If there was ever a “fight for the fans,” this is it. Late last week when news broke of Nick Diaz signing a 3-fight deal with the UFC speculation immediately began about who his first opponent would be. All signs pointed to ‘The Spider’ himself, Anderson Silva, who would be due back in early 2015 after having his leg broken in late 2013 in second fight with the man who ended his record-breaking reign atop the middleweight division, Chris Weidman. Well, in this particular case, where there was smoke – there was hellfire-and-brimstone.
Here is the transcription of the official fight announcement UFC President Dana White made earlier today on Sportscenter:
“The greatest of all-time, Anderson Silva, is back. His doctor gave him clearance to fight…The fight that the fans have been waiting for, the fight that the fans have been screaming for, also back, is Nick Diaz. So we have made Anderson Silva versus Nick Diaz, January 31st in Las Vegas and it will be the main event, and it will be five rounds.”
This “Superfight” will headline UFC 183 and will be contested at 185 lbs.
