Top 10 finishers in pro wrestling today: #4 – Coup de Grâce

Former Bullet Club leader Prince Fergal Devitt, now known as Finn Bálor, was celebrated just as much for his theatrics in Japan as he was for his stunning moveset. It’s been more of the same since the Irish standout joined WWE developmental.

Bálor has wowed the North American pro wrestling fan base since joining the NXT roster in the latter part of 2014. He’s been known to elicit goosebumps from fans and competitors alike on his way to the ring when channeling his demonic persona during NXT and WWE special events. His transformation from “Prince” to “Demon” is truly something to behold.

As we mentioned above, Bálor is known just as much for his moveset as he is his theatrics. His “Bloody Sunday” DDT has even been adopted by the man who filled his spot after he left his Bullet Club stable to come stateside, A.J. Styles.

Bálor keeps the pressure on his opponents by assaulting them with a combination of running front kicks, debilitating gutbusters and diving double front stomps to the back of the head. In the video below, Finn sends Hideo Itami flying with this “John Woo” kick. The end result is Itami’s head bouncing off the middle turnbuckle.

And that’s just a small sampling of what he’s capable of. Once Bálor is able to use this moves to wound you – it’s time for his “Coup de Grâce”.

A Coup de Grâce (/ˌkuː də ˈɡrɑːs/; French for “blow of mercy”) is a death blow to end the suffering of a severely wounded person or animal. It may be a mercy killing of civilians or soldiers, friends or enemies, with or without the sufferers consent

In the .gif below, Bálor victimizes Itami again, rendering him unable to beat the refs three count. The height he’s able to achieve before ultimately hitting his finisher takes him right out of our screen.

And finally, we get to watch demon Finn Bálor hit his finisher on Neville at NXT Takeover: Rival. Look at how high Bálor is able to bring his knees up to his chin as he comes down on you from the top rope – feet first right into your gut.

Before we reveal our final three finishers in our top ten countdown later this month – take a look at our archive thus far to catch up with what you may have missed.
