UFC 163: ‘Aldo vs. Zombie’ Video Highlights

One of the true qualities of any great champion is the ability to take out your opponent when he shows the first sign of weakness. When featherweight champion Jose Aldo noticed that his challenger on this night, Chan Sung Jung, had injured his shoulder during an exchange it appeared that he attempted to finish his opponent via the head kick not once, not twice, but thrice. On second look, those kicks may have missed the Zombie’s head by design. Aldo targeted his opponents shoulder (give Zombie crazy tough points for trying to repair it during this sequence) and went in for the kill without thinking twice. Aldo may have taken the first three rounds on the judges scorecards, but he certainly wasn’t going to take any chances when it came to defending the belt that has become his livelihood. One man smelled blood, the other ended up clutching his shoulder in a corner after being spared of any more harm by a third man.
Don’t let the numbers during these UFC broadcasts fool you. That wasn’t Aldo’s fifth title defense – it was his seventh. Those two WEC title defenses were essentially for the same belt and they were against the top ranked contenders under contract with Zuffa inside of the 145 pound division at the time. Jose Aldo is the best at featherweight and now that he’s no longer having major issues with his weight cuts as reported early tonight by Brian Stann – he’s more dangerous than ever.
